I’m honored to see Blossom in the finals! The idea of Blossom first came about from my own need as a web designer to be productive and focus worktime on specific apps and projects, while still spending some time learning and researching online. I wanted a simple, visual way to track productivity and progress toward work goals.
What is Blossom? It’s a smart little productivity app that appears in the form of a growing plant on your desktop. Feed and water it by using your computer productively! The plant represents achievement of one’s goals. Simply tell Blossom what apps or documents you need to work on, and it will feed and water your plant as you make progress toward your goal.
Using the app: Choose an desktop plant to illustrate achievement of one’s goals. Create criteria that _feed it_, and criteria that _neglect it_. For example, to feed it: Actively use Excel over 20 minutes per hour. To Neglect it: Actively use of Firefox or Safari over 15 minutes per hour. IF your plant is healthy and growing/flowering/etc, you know you’re meeting your goals. Consistantly failing to meet one’s goals will slowly wilt the plant. Clicking on the plant can display stats of current health and graphs of app usage.
Additional feature details:
- Set specific documents to be worked on (or to avoid). Track usage stats of these documents/apps.
- Select intensity of food/water or neglect (how quickly the plant grows or wilts based on criteria).
- Visual setup: select type of plant from a library of ferns, vines, flowers, trees, etc. Select a planter or ‘ground area’ like rocks, grass, or mulch.
- Track history of plant growth/health and associated data, and be able to ‘roll back’ history to see how plant growth has progressed over time.
I look forward to feedback and ideas as we move forward in the finals! Thanks for your interest, and keep an eye on this blog, I’ll be posting again soon.
