Well it looks like I am out, so good luck to the other contestants and for the iGotPets fans out there don’t worry I will create the application in time. It was fun and I thank MDA for the opportunity!

~Bye for now,

~Josh

I thought I would try and list all the main features of iGotPets, so you would not have to read through the entire idea every time you wanted to review the app. IGotPets will mainly serve 3 main functions for the user. One, allow the user to have a full digital profile on their pet. Two, allow the user to have all previous and current health information stored in the profile that could be exported as a report. Three, give the user a ranking based upon the interactions they have with the pet and the application.

Profile Setup

-decide if you are a single owned or you have many pets
-are you an individual or an organization?
-start a new profile and add your pet…anything
-load a picture and any past pictures you have of the pet
-load past medical history, if avaliable
-add contacts and friends..others with pets and Vet’s.
-link a description with your pet..could be through wikipedia (partnership)
-operation modes (advanced/easy) - easy mode for children

Digital Profile

-pet type / name / age / color…etc
-pictures (import, take, and export)
-statistics
-sharable to others / export to iPod
-pet inventory lists
-notices through application - reminders (pop ups, emails, …etc)
-widget with pic and current stats
-favorites with saved statistics of others pets
-digital interactions among your pet and others
-happy meter
-contacts - vets
-tracks, on a daily basis, habits about your pet. (eating, playing, pills, etc.)

Reporting

-build a custom report on your pet from the information in the application
-ability to draw on pictures in the report to identify certain things
-sharable among other iGotPets owners / Veterinarians (Spotlight / PTP)
-ability to export to a .doc, .pdf, pages, keynote, or iPod

Ranking

-local machine ranking - the image will depend on if your pet has a paw or a claw or whatever. So it would be 3 “paws” or 3 “claws” for a level 3 ranking
-world wide ranking - all iGotPet users
-graph showing care over time

Partnerships

Also there should be a partnership with a large online pet store. The user could have the ability to search for and purchase items for their pet through the application. iGotPets could also suggest items to purchase for your pet based upon your reports and digital profile.

The application should also be able to add a small description to your pet through the use of wikipedia. Or if you want some information on your type of pet you can search through an online encyclopedia.

The market of pet owners is huge and very profitable. I am not sure why there has not really been any applications that tend to this market. iGotPets has the capability to force both push and pull market strategies. The true key to iGotPets is the information exchange between the pet owner and the Veterinarian/other pet owners. Although I would like to know what some of you think about these features because I think this could be a very addictive and fun application to use if you own a pet or some kind.

Well sorry, I tried to make this shorter and i think it turned out longer than the first idea blog..oh well. At least you can just scan through the features quicker.

I decided to make this a new post because I thought it was a very interesting thought and would like to address it separately.

I do like the idea that iGotPets could be used for other things than pets (this could be future versions of iGotPets or a line of application that could be developed from this base idea). The way I envision the application loading in data will allow you to load any type of pet…anything! Then have the ability to build a digital profile on it and track anything about it with reporting options.

The pictures and information is up to what you enter in. So in theroy, you could start the application up and load your car as your pet and all the info you add in could be about your car (car was an idea used in original forum post this idea is based on). You know, you could also do this with babies!! Think of all the new mothers and how proud they are of their babies. They could make digital profiles on them and track their health related issues and share this with their others friends with babies. I dont know I may be on to something here……… ;)

Although I do not think this app could go under the name of iGotPets, if you are doing babies. It would have to be a future version of the application that would tend to babies or cars…maybe iGotBabies or iGotCars. Dont get me wrong, iGotPets is my idea and I chose pets because this tends to the largest market but these other application could string off of this idea and would essentially be the same applicaiton with a small twist to each.

What do you guys think?

I will be updating the blog soon with a outline of iGotPets features, so you can easily read through the basic concepts of the app. It should be up within the next few hours. Until then, I will be working on installing software at work…so much fun ;)

I think it would also be cool if you could have a section in the application to enter in all the accessories and or items your pet has, almost like an inventory list. You could choose to have this section added to the report for sharing if you wish. I do not think the Vet would need this kind of information but other pet owners mite be interested.
