I am currently in the process of creating a mock-GUI, it will be uploaded soon. Anyways, I felt the need to fully explain iSightSee and let everyone into my idea.
iSightSee is an application to change the way we use computers.
Personally as a Mac user I absolutely LOVE expose, I do NOT however like the way we use it. Hot corners was fine for a little bit, but how many times can we all recall annoying times where, by complete accident, you move too close to a corner while working on something, and it annoys you. I’ve seen and had it happen to me more times then I would like.
You might say ” Well Mike, why can’t we just use the f8-f12 keys OR set up our own shortcut keys?” My answer to that would be, as a Flash user I use the default keys, and my brain is so filled to the brim with shorcut keys for my army of software, that I really don’t want to spend time learning to use more than I have to.
Now, let’s change it around, you’re busy working on your project, and you want to quickly check your e-mail, or a forecast widget, get to your desktop easily… and so on, I don’t need to explain expose to mac users. What I am getting at is, how easy is it to just wave your hand in a certain direction to get OS X to act as you like?
Another use, you have many people over, using your mac as a jukebox, when suddenly a song comes on that your friend doesn’t like, turns out he has little to no experience in iTunes ( or preferred music app ) ” How do I change the song on this thing? ” you can respond by saying, ” Wave that white pen there in front of it ” Voila! The song is skipped and you don’t have to worry about anyone fooling around with your computer.
With Leopard’s upcoming, SPACES will be a widely used tool in which iSightSee could take full advantage of. How many users have seen Minority Report, where the computer user could manipulate screens by virtually grabbing them and moving them? Instead of once again, having to memorize a keystroke, or moving your mouse by accident to a corner of the screen to activate it, You could virtually use your hands ( or colored objects ) to pick up, place, move, open/close your “Spaces” with your own hand gestures.
iSightsee could also be used as a virtual drawing app, map the color of your favorite pen.. or paintbrush, and in your favorite digital painting app, quickly draw up something, whether at home having fun, sketching ideas at your next meeting iSightSee would have you covered.
You may ask, well how could this be done? Hand gestures would be hard to recognize. Well you are absolutely right, they are, BUT moving colors are not. Just look at the green screen process. Upon opening iSightSee you will be asked to calibrate your color map. iSight will start up and you will see a preview of the iSight’s vision, a square will appear on screen in which you hold the color mapped object in ( your hand, a pen, a candy wrapper sitting on your desk ) once you have lined up the placement, press spacebar to map the color. Profiles will be used to quickly save and manage color profiles for different occasion. Within these profiles you will be able to save your different gestures you mapped for specific programs, or usage needs.
I will be adding more details and pictures when I complete the mock-up, any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks to anyone who spends time reading this.
Take it easy,
-Mike Gaboury
Amazing, after looking through the other ideas I was almost certain I had no chance, all these people have great ideas. It’s an honor to be chosen for my idea, an opportunity I am very thankful for. I cannot wait until voting begins, this is incredible. Best of luck to everyone!
