Welcome, and thank you for taking a few moments to learn a bit more about me. My dream app idea is Telepath, an application that aims to be the mobile extension of your Mac experience. Click ‘My Idea’ above to learn more, and if you’re motivated to do so, please click ‘Blog’ above and join in the creative collaboration to make Telepath your dream app.
I live in beautiful Portland, Oregon, USA, although I am a recent transplant from Texas. The first eighteen years of my life were spent growing up in a small town in Iowa. I’m 33 years old, married, and have four boys (although my wife calls me the fifth). My interests are numerous and varied. Those that stand out right now are listening to new music, drinking green tea, and exploring Portland by bicycle, although I never seem to have enough time for any of them.
I am a Senior Analyst and the Open Source Practice Head for The 451 Group, an IT Industry Analyst Firm. I spend a good deal of my time talking to and writing about open source vendors, organizations, communities and contributors. I’ve been working with open source in one capacity or another since the mid 1990’s (before we called it ‘open source’) and was the co-founder of the Netscape for Rhapsody open source project in 1998, back when Netscape and Rhapsody still existed (much has changed).
Some of you may remember me from my regular MacWEEK.com column, OS Xing (1999-2000), during Apple’s early transition to Mac OS X, or prior to that from my Rhapsody Report newsletter (1998), outlining Apple’s adoption of the technology from its acquisition of NeXT. I do my best to make it to Macworld San Francisco every year.
I have been using Macs since 1991, but am not a developer - hence my participation in this event. However, I am an active consumer of other people’s software creations and do my best to be an engaged user - sending in bug reports and feature requests. This nagging lead to my involvement with the launch of info.xhead from xhead software, which I use everyday.
