Phew. That was an interesting experience.
I wrote a long blog entry. Expressing, with careful thought and considered verse, my thoughts on reaching the final.
However, I accidentally hit apple-Q and Safari vanished with impressive speed. Safari development team. how about not quitting instantly if a user has typed a lot of text into a website form?
My previous post in rapid form! :
All things revolve around compensation. We were stressed, relieved, excited & even on occasion, ambivalent. So even if there is the disappointment of Whistler not making the final cut. It’s inspiring to think of how Whistler sparked a fair few thoughts in a lot of minds.
I’ve also learnt a lot about marketing, PR. Mainly how much work they are and the significant part they play in the modern world. I assume the next round of MDA if it occurs will be even more competetive than this one. Good luck to anyone who finds themselve embroiled in that! It will be emotional.
Regarding the future of Whistler. Well the site is still there.
Whistler Website. See?
It’s interesting to see the other strong but non-winning ideas publicly lurch hopefully towards some kind of development process. I’ve been told many times via email that I should be pushing to get Whistler made. Well this puts me in an interesting dilemna. I didn’t enter mydreamapp.com to get intto the world of software development. The entire remit of the competition is to take that burden away from budding imagineers.
Believe it or not, the mydreamapp conceptualising experience was a fair amount of work. Which as deep a learning experience as it was, I was glad to see come to an end so I could return to my other projects which had been deserted 2 long months ago.
So the idea of taking Whistler even further and becoming deeply involved in the long-term, logistial aspects & risks of a non-MDA related, actual software development project doesn’t factor into my plan for the next few years.
Of couse that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see Whistler made by a team of highly paid, reputable code-design-ninjas (some with beards) who I could hassle on a weekly basis with the minutiae of my auteuristine Whistler visions. :) (and made up words).
So yeh. Again with the ‘phew’.
Now it’s my turn to make demands. Someone take on Puppeteer. It’s an awesome idea.
