Round 2 Voting Over, Cookbook Takes the Lead
Round 2 comes to a close. We had 5,453 voters who cast a total of 27,697 votes this week.
A Changing of the Guard
iGTD, which was #1 last week, lost a lot of support and fell to #5 by the end of this round.
For the top finishers this week, Andrew Wilson’s Desktop Wars moved down a small notch from last week by going from #2 to #3 with 7.5% of the votes. Kevin Capizzi’s Hijack took 7.8% of your votes and made a decent jump from #5 to #2 this week. And Michael Yuan’s Cookbook finished at the top of the heap with a strong 8.6% of the votes, moving up from #3 last week.
A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words, err Votes…
Now that contestants can include mockups in their entries, this made a big difference in persuading voters. While this may seem unfair to those lacking mad Photoshop skillz, in reality, what we’re looking for in potential winners beyond just their original ideas is also their resourcefulness.
Some high-ranking contestants who lack the artistic ability were able to enlist the help of others with the necessary skills in turning their ideas into images. And several contestants were able to pull-off exceptional UI designs on their own. These did a great job in getting their ideas across to voters beyond what only words could’ve done.
Eliminated
Six more finalists got knocked out this week: Destinations, Bookroom, Chatboard, Telepath, iStyleIt, and iVlog. These contestants will each receive a 2GB iPod nano for making it this far. Thanks to all of them for participating.
