My Dream App Begins Unveiling Finalists

BOSTON, Massachusetts - My Dream App, an online competition in which contestants compete for the chance to have their ideas realized as a Macintosh shareware application, announced its first batch of finalists today.

After launching two weeks ago, My Dream App (http://mydreamapp.com) has drawn over 2,700 idea submissions and an overwhelming response from the Mac community. My Dream App aims to enable Mac users without programming experience to turn their dreams into killer apps.

Two dozen finalists will battle for the praise of over 40 high-profile guest judges, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Digg founder Kevin Rose and Delicious Library developer Wil Shipley. Ultimately, software lovers all over the world will vote to decide which three finalists win the right to see their dream app realized. When the contest is over, three teams of veteran developers and designers will develop winning ideas into full-blown Mac apps.

The first finalist announced today was Herald, an app that presents RSS news feeds as sections in a virtual newspaper. Users would be able to create and share newspapers through an iWeb-like user interface. Bogumil Glertier, a college student from Poland, authored the idea for Herald.

Stick-It, the second finalist, is an app that allows users place sticky note reminders in apps, menus, on windows, and just about anywhere within OS X. Stick-It was submitted by Anders Melin, a 28-year-old Mac user from Sweden.

Announced third was Desktop Wars, a real-time strategy game which transforms a standard OS X desktop into a battlefield. The game would feature interaction by mouse, voice, and motion sensor. Desktop Wars was conceived by Andrew Wilson, a college student from Utah.

My Dream App is the brainchild of software entrepreneur Phill Ryu. More information on these finalists, along with comments from judges, can be viewed at http://mydreamapp.com.

Additional finalists will be announced every weekday through Sept. 15. The first elimination round will begin on Sept. 18.
